Diecast Models - TRUCKS & TANKERS
More coming
This section is dedicated to various Trucks and Tankers regardless of model maker. It will allow for a better comparison of the various makes and types of vehicles all so different to their factory versions. Factory versions will be included to enable the full extent of any variations to be noticed.
Lone Star Tankers are the first inclusion. They make a nice fleet.
Using some Lone Star Cabs and a Dinky Commer Cab they were mated to some in house rear loads an individually decorated with some unusual decals also done in house.
The next lot are copies of Micro Models trailers mated to Corgi ERF cabs.
Not a factory livery. Cam only as Shell and Mobilgas in petrol liveries. Done on order

A old overpainted truck repainted in Pengold wine livery . Real wood veneer used on the tray . Brought back to life
Another well play worn model repainted. Real wood laminate used as the tray. Livery is a fantasy Potato Co-op from a well known potato growing region.
Another playworn model restored and adorned with a fantasy livery of a Dairy Co-op. Decals have been used to show the beautiful scenery of the region.
I was attracted to this user rated diecast "toy" when I bought this original version. I am not sure if the green cab was meant to be attached to the Esso tanker but it did not matter. I then sourced a number of played with versions for repainting and re badging.
Shell is always the most appealing to Tanker liveries and so was the first choice for my repaint and rebadge. Colour separation was bit tricky so a black foil stripe worked well with the colours. Professionally sourced decals completed the model.
This was the second repaint. The decals were after market versions of Dinky's tanker along with a couple of others I found. Again a silver foil stripe completed this repaint and rebadge
After using Dinky aftermarket decals for Mobilgas the next version became clear . The Dinky BP decals from one of their other models.. By now I was committed to a fleet of tankers
Caltex was the next livery I chose. In house decals were created and affixed to this striking colour combination By now I had got the hang of the colour separation as I got more experienced at doing two tone paint jobs.
Well it was time to do my version of the Esso livery. I came across some aftermarket versions and while this set were not the best decals they did the job. I even went bold on a three colour tanker trailer.
I decided that the Shell livery could be done again as they were the most striking of the colour combinations. I needed to be distinctively different from the first version.
This is a Lone Star cab as used with the tankers. The rear is a custom built trailer complete with chassis. In house decals have been produced to fit and applied.

Once again a Lone Star cab mated to a trailer similar to the Pepsi version. Different wheels were used. Again in house decals applied.
Rear view of Trailer.
A different cab on this occasion but the Trailer is similar to the Pepsi and Coke versions. The in house decals are Lucky Strike cigarettes, not often used on models these days but seemed appropriate for its time. The words on the side say "7 out of 10 smokers inhale knowingly, the other 3 inhale unknowingly". Little did we know!
Rear view of Trailer
The plastic box between the two models reveals the item the trailers were constructed from. They are the Plastic boxes that came with the Sabra Eldorado models I mentioned in that section. They suited perfectly . Naturally they required a full chassis to sit on and to take the wheels and axles. These were custom built for each model.
The trailer is a resin copy of a Micro Models tanker trailer. It has had lead sinkers included in the middle before assembly to make it feel real. The Cab and chassis are part of a Corgi ERF dump truck. A small tank has been added behind the cab to "fill" the gap but it also works well.
