Diecast Models- Dinky Woody Series
Dinky's Woody Wagon is not a very popular Dinky model. It is quite plain with the wood panels represented in metal. I have created a series of Woody models using the Dinky woody as the donor model. All the creations have had the "metal" wood replaced by real wood veneer. This time consuming task required drilling out the metal , filing the cavity neatly and then gluing in various wood veneer strips into the spaces. Various veneers were used allowing for a lighter or darker woor look. The outer "wooden " rim was left as metal but handpainted to try and simulate the wood look. Some models created required joining part of the Woody to another model or part thereof.

All the "wood" panels have been drilled out and the model stripped. Real wood veneer has been inserted internally. The model has been repainted and the roof given a vinyl look finish. An interior has been added along with "windscreens". White wall tyres sourced from another model complete the authentic look of this model.

Parked outside the Hotel Coronado in San Diego as it might have looked back in the fifties.
A Dinky wagon chopped and converted to a Pickup. Fine wood veneer has been glued over the original metal "wood" panels. Aftermarket mag wheels and tyres complete the tough look of an American Pickup of those times.

Progress photo of A Dinky Woody chopped just past the front window and joined to a Dinky caravan. The fake wood panels on the vehicle have been drilled out and replaced with real wood veneer. A new base has been made to accommodate the lengthened model. The Caravan potion has had the fine wood veneer carefully cut and placed on as can be seen in the photos. More substantial wheels and tyres have been added. Imagine seeing something like that back on the roads in the fifties and sixties.

Progress photo of my obsession with Dinky's woody wagon. Once again drilled out and repainted with a vinyl roof and roof racks. Ready for completion.
Completed model with after market Mag wheels and real wood veneer in a light colour to complement the darker wood frames. A decal on the bonnet and surfboards made in house complete the believable surfing wagon. Windscreens and an interior have also been added.

The rear portion of the model mated to the caravan came in handy . It became a trailer colour matched to the model and joined by a tow bar. Billabong decals on the trailer seemed appropriate being an Aussie brand.
Another full work over and this time mated to a Dinky horse float. The horse float has been partially hand painted to mimc a wood look to match the front framework.
